Willa Ford Was Here 'Willa Was Here' album

She's blonde, looks good and sings pop songs. So is Willa Ford the latest in a long line of wannabe pop princesses? I listened to her debut release 'Willa Was Here' to investigate. Aged 20 and well known for her past relationship with Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys she has been at the firing end of many hate letters from BSB fans.

It is a fact, that she has more anti sites than she does fan sites. However isn't it supposed to be about the music?

So getting on to the album then, well on the first track, Willa wants to be bad and lets us know that she 'wants to break all the rules'. One thing that is notable from the outset is that this girl has attitude.8-)

On to the second track 'Did Ya Understand That', this one has more of an R'n'B twist to it and is incredibly catchy just like its predecessor. The message is simple your dumped. Willa don't need you anymore.

So is she another Brintey? No I am not convinced that she is and even Willa has something to say about those comparisons. On the track 'Tired' she says that you won't ever see her lip-synching and then she sings 'tired of people saying Britney'. So there you go, don't even go there.:(

The only ballad-type track on this record is 'Tender' although a good track, it is those up-beat feisty numbers that Willa excels on.

I like 'Don't You Wish' where Willa sings 'I wish you would leave your woman's arms' so that she can then have her own way with him. I think this is one of the best tracks on the album and another great pop song. This track also has some of the best vocals from Willa on the album. Then there is the catchy 'Somebody Take The Pain Away' and the funky 'Dare' where Willa declares that you should 'show them what they really want'.

Due to its urban-pop influenced sound throughout this album is more credible than a lot of the bubblegum records, which have been all over the charts recently. Even Willa herself says that she wants to write 'real lyrics' and not 'cheesy shit'. On this record she has done a good job and yes the butterflies, sunshine and candy are not present on any of the eleven tracks.

This album is full of some of the best pop songs I have heard in a long time and it would definitely seem that Willa knows the score when it comes to the formula of good pop. One more thing to add is that Willa is listed on the album credits as writer and executive producer.

Willa IS here and after one listen of her debut I would say that with her strength and determination it could be for quite some time. So if you like your pop with attitude then watch out for Willa. *D
