biography
Under the Flood is a new hard rock band from Charlottesville, Virginia. Although the band is newly formed, hypothetically speaking, it has been years in the making. The band’s connection extends back to their high school days. Never knowing that one day the group would unite to collaborate their musical ideas makes their story all the better.
Under the Flood’s formation begins with guitarist, Matt Nadolski. After high school, Matt’s drive for music kept him busy writing heavy guitar lines intertwined with melodic riffs. The need to fulfill his musical desire did not stop as a solo act. He called upon lead guitarist John McCleary to kick the music into high gear. John and Matt jammed with one another during their teenage years, and clearly understood each other’s style. John’s guitar work reflects some of his early influences such as Eric Johnson and Steve Vai. His approach to music, matched with Matt’s style, makes Under the Flood’s guitar work innovative and dominant.
During their high school years, the guitar duo did not realize how much of an impact they made upon Matt’s younger brother, Dave Nadolski. As a result, music was instilled in Dave at such a young age that his musical growth has been enormous. Through studying voice and being part of the local music scene, Dave realized he wanted to take his vocal career to a higher level. Teaming up with his brother and John seemed to be the perfect answer.
The trio also needed a solid rhythm section to aid their ambitions. The band contacted bass player Ken Davis to join the band. Once again, Matt knew Ken during their teenage years. He would watch Ken share the stage with American Idol’s own Chris Daughtry in the popular band Cadence. After Cadence disbanded, Ken remained active playing music, but never found an outlet until he was contacted by Under the Flood. Ken’s high-energy bass playing became a key asset for the band, and where they want to go. With one piece of the puzzle missing, the search for the right drummer began. After learning that his high school jam partner was teaching drums in Richmond, and actively playing gigs around Virginia, Matt tracked down Daniel Smith with the offer. Immediately, Daniel meshed with the band on many levels.
Under the Flood has formed, and their connection is deeply rooted. Their goal is to establish a similar connection with their fans by delivering high energy shows. The band has recently finished production with Brian Craddock of Daughtry.
