Tyrant 'Tyrant 2: No Shoes / No Cake' album

It's almost two years since the success of the first Tyrant CD. Most of you will be more than aware of Craig and Lee, their individual careers and the collective energy they generate when they play records together. Up a bit, down a bit. Left a bit, right a bit - free, full of movement and without genre. This is the sound of Tyrant.

"I was born in 1966 in Bournemouth. I grew up in a small village in the New Forest with my Mother, Father and Sister. I went to a Catholic grammar school run by De La Salle Brothers; the education I received was formal, academic and uncreative. I left school with little qualifications.

After leaving college I accepted various design, photography and painting commissions but found working commercially to be incredibly restrictive. In 1993, somewhat disillusioned with life after art school, I began organising one off parties in interesting spaces and then subsequently promoting specific nights in existing nightclubs. Nowadays, I play records for a living and make visual art in my spare time."

Lee Burridge

"I grew up around an awful mixture of pop music, Dire Straits and jukebox classics (my parents owned a pub). Between 1985 and 1991 I ran a mobile disco, pounding out the classics at weddings/birthdays. I'd begun to work at local clubs in Dorset and in 1991 was offered a job entertaining ex-pat's in Hong Kong.

From that came a monthly party and a residency at after hours club, The Big Apple, where I played six nights a week. We had the pleasure and at times the displeasure of international guest DJs coming to play records, with two of these being very important in my leaving Hong Kong; Craig Richards and Sasha.

In 1996 I fell in love with Craig (well, not in love as such, but I liked his music and humor). I met him on one of his visits to Hong Kong and he asked me to be a part of a new night he was starting with Sasha. My time had been split between Hong Kong and the Full Moon party circuit of Thailand, so the following year was the hardest of my life; from 6 gigs a week I was playing one every three months. Tyrant eventually came together though; after 6 months of playing with Craig and Sasha I'd won Mixmag's 'Best New DJ' award and mixed a compilation CD. I visit the USA monthly and am one half of Tyrant at Fabric, Tribal Sessions and The Bomb."
