Trey Lorenz began his career as a background vocalist to a young Lord Island pop artist named Mariah Carey, accompanying her on her very first promotional tour in support of her soon to be released self-titled album. Lorenz remained "the voice behind The Voice" for a number of national tours and, most memorably, on Carey's appearance on MTV's Unplugged where she and Lorenz sang that performance released as a single, scoring the top spot on the Billboard charts, but it also landed Lorenz his first record deal.
