The utterly intriguing Thomas Tantrum release their eponymous album in August and it’s a quite brilliant and inspired debut. A gloriously quirky collection of eleven songs oozing wit and charm, it’s full of clever, witty, off kilter lyrics and blissful melodies that twist and turn throughout, accompanied by blustery guitars, frenzied rhythms and complex, urgent arrangements and tempo changes. From the frenetic opener ‘Rage Against The Tantrum’ the whirlwind pace never lets up. Future single ‘Work It’ is insanely catchy while ‘Why The English Are Rubbish’ brilliantly captures what we all know is wrong with our nation’s youth.
‘Swan Lake’ is a deranged but amazing mash up of indie pop and Tchaikovsky and ‘Shake It Shake It’ is a sweet and spiky slice of magnetic oestrogen fuelled power pop.
Thomas Tantrum are a four piece from Southampton fronted by Megan Thomas with her distinctive vocals. They’ve already made waves this year with their spell binding live shows and have drawn musical comparisons as diverse as Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, PJ Harvey, Bjork and Sonic Youth.
Championed by the likes of Lily Allen, Glasvegas, and The Futureheads, with whom they recently toured, Thomas Tantrum are set to become one of this year’s hottest new bands.
