The Pierces 'Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge' album

Lizard King Records US, the new branch of the UK label which signed The Killers in 2004, is ready to launch their roster of new artists. Alabama-born-neo-New Yorkers The Pierces (sisters Catherine and Allison) are the first artists to make their debut on Lizard King Records US. They will launch their new album by supporting Albert Hammond, Jr., whose solo excursion from The Strokes is getting great reaction in the UK with this sold-out tour. The Pierces new album “Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge” was produced by Roger Grenawalt (Ben Kweller, Adam Green) and will be released in February 2007 on Lizard King Records through ADA Distribution. When The Pierces were invited to join this tour, the sisters used their network of friends in New York to assemble a live band to be envied.

Lending their talents for this short tour are Russell Simins of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Shannon Ferguson of Longwave, Sammy James Jr. of Mooney Suzuki and Ben Bromley of Fischerspooner.

Lizard King Records US was formed last June when it entered into a distribution agreement with ADA and Warner’s Independent Label Group. It has signed several artists with the goal of being as fiercely independent as they are in the UK. Recently, Lizard King signed Glasgow band Drive By Argument, tipped by UK press and radio to be the big thing of 2007, Philadelphia/New Yorker Santogold who has been known to join Mark Ronson and Spank Rock on live shows.

Biography

Once upon a time, there were two sisters named Allison and Catherine Pierce. They were born and raised in a land far, far away, called Birmingham, Alabama. They were home schooled and encouraged by their parents to pursue anything and everything in the arts. Now, the girls flourished in ballet, painting, music, and writing, but they couldn't solve a calculus equation to save their souls. That's okay though, when do you ever use calculus in the real world? Anyway...back to the story... Allison and Catherine soon grew weary of small town living and decided to run away to a magical place called "Nashville" to pursue fame and fortune through song. They packed their bags and vowed never to return (except for the holidays). Aaaah, but fame is an elusive beast, that is difficult to catch. After several fruitless years in Nashville the young ladies realized that their destiny lay waiting in New York City. Managers were hired, deals were signed, records were made. The future seemed bright...but sometimes, dear readers...things are not as they seem. To make a long story short... Managers were fired, deals were unsigned, records were shelved. The future seemed bleak...but sometimes, dear readers...well you know. The Pierces said, "Who needs a record label? We can do this on our own!" And that, my friends is exactly what they did. They recorded 15 glorious songs with producer and friend, Roger Greenawalt at Shabby Roads Studio in Williamsburg and were very pleased with the results. They found it much easier to make music that they loved without those pesky label people saying things like, " I don't hear a hit" and " It needs to be edgier". The end of our happy tale of two girls with a dream is still unwritten, but the moral of the story is to never give up hope... and with the technology we have today, you can record your own stuff, so don't depend on anyone else.
