The Riverboat Gamblers; broken teeth, lacerated body parts, and thousands of dollars in medical bills. Denton Texas’ The Riverboat Gamblers have cultivated a fanatical and even somewhat celebrity following with their rowdy energetic live shows, which have led to the aforementioned medical debt as well as support slots on tours with Flogging Molly, Hot Water Music, Burning Brides, and MC5.
Formed in 1997, the Gamblers built a local following based on a self-released single and lots of sweat; with that the band began to take the show from the dives bars and house parties of their home state to the rest of the country. In 2001 Austin punk legend Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Poison 13) produced their (s/t) debut album released on the Washington D.C. based label Vile Beat Records. This release and the band's unique performances caught the attention of San Francisco based label, Gearhead Records, who released their second album "Something To Crow About" (also produced by Tim Kerr) in 2003.
With the momentum from all the positive press received from "Something to Crow About" in magazines such as Spin and Alternative Press, the Riverboat Gamblers again hit the road awing crowds from New York to San Francisco where the band continued to earn pages of press for both shows played and shows cancelled due to injuries.
Enter 2005 The Riverboat Gamblers have found a new label with Volcom Entertainment and are set to once again go on the road with this year’s Van Warped Tour where they will introduce themselves to a whole new group of underage rockers who haven’t had a chance to witness a Gamblers live set.
Keeping with the tradition of proving Texas as fertile turf for music is solidified with The Riverboat Gamblers. Rock, punk, pop, garage, whatever you want to call it, is all swirled into an intense ball or thermonuclear energy ready to explode. Whenever the Gamblers take the stage, make sure you have a blast shield.
