On July 18th, Shout! Factory will release two new live titles from Los Angeles based band Particle. The DVD, Transformations Live, was recorded on February 24th, 2006 at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood before a capacity crowd. Transformations Live: For The People will be released as a companion two-CD set that includes recordings from the Henry Fonda show as well as songs from the February 28th, 2006 performance at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. The live DVD and CD set, which are available for purchase separately, capture a fresh line up that now includes two guitar players and the addition of vocals into the group. Both releases feature very special guests including Joe Satriani, Robby Krieger, Blackalicious, and DJ Logic.
Particle, a band known for its heavy tour schedule, took a break from the road after 700 shows in eight countries over five years to begin searching for a guitar player. Now a five-piece band, Particle added two guitar players and vocalists -- Ben Combe and Scott Metzger -- to its core lineup consisting of original members Eric Gould (bass, vocals), Darren Pujalet (drums, vocals) and Steve Molitz (keyboards, vocals). Combe and Metzger each made unique and powerful impressions beyond expectations with complimentary guitar styles and vocal ability, so in the end both were asked to join. The Transformations releases document this turning point in Particle’s career.
Transformations Live contains three songs not on the companion CD, including a 15-minute rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” with all the evening’s special guests joining in the fun. The DVD also includes a special appearance by the Lucent Dossier dance troupe. 5.1 Surround Sound DVD bonus features include the Particle Transforms featurette (featuring “Triple Threat” and the new song “The Sweeper”), the Collaborations featurette (featuring “Simulator” with Joe Satriani) and a Transformations photo gallery (featuring the new song “Smile”).
Shortly after the Henry Fonda event, Particle headed to The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco where they recorded songs to include on the audio release. The Fat Tuesday party was complete with a feathered burlesque dance troupe and a second-line horn section. Transformations Live: For The People contains a handful of songs that are unique to the CD set including “Triple Threat,” “Ghetto Queen,” “Fiyo On The Bayou”, “Ed & Molly” and “Losing It”-- all recorded during the Mardi Gras extravaganza. All of the special guests on the DVD are included on the CD as well.
Particle has been featured in Rolling Stone, CNN, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times. Their debut release ‘Launchpad’ was named one of the ten best albums of 2004 by The Associated Press. They have performed at festivals including Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Austin City Limits and have collaborated in the past with Mickey Hart, Buckethead, and John Popper among others. Biography
Since 2000, Particle has emerged as one of the hottest up-and-coming acts on the jam-band circuit, playing their techno-flavored instrumental jams at sold-out shows across the country, and selling 30,000 copies of their debut CD, Launchpad (Or Music).
In late 2005, their guitar player left, and while auditioning new ones, they realized that they couldn't decide between the two finalists, each of whom would take them in a different, new direction. After much soul searching, they chose both, and instantly expanded their range to include not only a more-organic rock sound, but also vocals, a first for them.
The Transformations Live DVD captures Particle as they introduce their new sound to their fans for the first time, at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood on February 24, 2006. The companion 2-CD set, Transformations Live: For the People, includes not only highlights from the new line-up's first-ever show, but also key performances from their next show, recorded on Fat Tuesday at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall.
