One of the most original and unique bands to emerge in years, My Latest Novel finally unveil their astonishing debut album, “Wolves”. Mapping out what is at times previously uncharted musical territory, My Latest Novel brilliantly merge soaring violins with breezy folk melodies and post-rock sea shanties on this magical record. Following the release of their stunning limited edition UK debut single, “Sister Sneaker Sister Soul” last September, My Latest Novel spent much of Autumn 2005 building a live following via support slots with the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Stars, Arab Strap and the Pixies. The band then returned to the studio to put the finishing touches on their beguiling debut.
It’s hard to imagine a band with more musical ideas than My Latest Novel. Wolves consistently displays a remarkable inventiveness and artistry - four-part harmonies, tempo changes, intricate arrangements, songs veering off on unusual tangents etc…
As lyricists, My Latest Novel truly live up to their name, easily matching their musical invention with their literary prowess. By turns romantic and dramatic, playful and intriguing, the band’s songs are bursting with charm and character. My Latest Novel invite you into their own uniquely eccentric world… and there aren’t many bands that you can say that about.
The band chose the title “Wolves” for a variety of reasons. During the recording of the album wolves seemed to be everywhere, cropping up on billboards, in documentaries, and in books… Neil Gaiman’s “The Wolves In The Walls” was a particular favourite. The band began thinking of the all the various connotations and how they appealed to them… the way they hunt in packs, are dark and mythical, are in all the best fairy tales...
My Latest Novel have crafted what must surely come to be regarded as one of the most singularly unique debuts of 2006… as well as one of it’s greatest releases.
Biography
MY LATEST NOVEL are an astonishing Scottish five-piece whose gorgeous songs are complemented by violins, xylophones and undulating percussion. Bohemian harbingers of breezy folk melodies and brilliant pop theatrics, My Latest Novel are rapidly winning fans on both sides of the border with their effervescent, magical music.
Having played just a handful of gigs in their native Scotland, My Latest Novel secured a slot at Manchester’s In The City music convention last year and the band have not looked back. In the eight months since In The City the band have recorded sessions for XFM, supported Smog, British Sea Power and The Dears, and recently signed a deal with Bella Union records.
