Vancouver’s Mother Mother, who stunned underground rock circles with their genre-bending 2007 debut Touch Up will follow it up on September 16 with their second album O My Heart through Last Gang Records. Howard Redekopp (The New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara) who returns as co-producer recently commented that the result is "the most focused and dense Mother Mother recording thus far.
What we did in the studio was add depth to the band's core sound. You'll find twists and turns on this album, some of which are surprising, but always gratifying".
The band’s use of rich vocal harmony, deeply poetic lyricism, and dynamic instrumentation are masterfully employed in this new collection of songs that mark the evolution and maturity of a band that stands out in today's music scene - a band with staying power, and one that pushes the bounds of contemporary pop/rock sensibilities. "The direction of the music spoke for itself,” said frontman, singer/guitarist Ryan Guldemond, who co-produced OMH with Redekopp. “And we listened, making no compromises in fleshing out the bones of each track".
Mother Mother’s debut Touch Up was a sleeper album that grabbed the attention of all the right people. "An album isolated from a lot of today's worn-out trends and aesthetic mimicry" said Pitchfork, while Cheeky Celebrity super-blogger, Perez Hilton distinguished Mother Mother to be "the most exciting band coming out of Canada" and Chart Attack remarked that "listening to Mother Mother is like reading Hunter S. Thompson - you end up in a place where reality has been delightfully skewed", an apt comparison, given the band's eccentric style - both lyrically and musically.
Mother Mother is currently touring their wild live show across Canada and will soon announce extensive touring in the United States in support of O My Heart.
