Two years in the making, Pianist and Singer/Songwriter Michael Mangia is set to release his second full-length album, Invisible Wall.
Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists such as Tori Amos, Spiritualized, Coldplay, and Sigur Ros, Mangia(pronounced Manja) is a uniquely gifted songwriter and storyteller.
Reminiscent of a journey through a dream, Invisible Wall takes listeners through the lives of Addicted Porn stars and their admirers, children's sci-fi fantasy books, an Italian mobster father's death, the facade filled world of Hollywood, and the effects of television on society. "As the story started to reveal itself, I started to piece this one wildly crazy puzzle together from different angles, time zones, and consciousnesses... It's an exploration of the facets of ones oneself you can wish to look at or not." says Mangia. Here I would like to have some info about what the title Invisible Wall means to you and why you chose it.. Producing the album himself, Michael took a new approach this time around. "In order to translate the abstraction in my heart and head, I had to play around with a different sonic palate than what I was used to. I brought in some really amazing players." Maybe expand this qoute with .which enriched the sound, etc.
Mangia started making music at the age of 8, when he would play the rented piano at his parents house in Los Angeles. Throughout his teenage years Michael continued to write music, but his first break came when he was 18 and met producer Johnny Pierce. He flew out to Nashville where the two recorded his first E.P. Virgins. After moving out of his parents house, he bought his first standup console Piano "Stein" and began writing almost everyday what would become his first self-released album Utopia.
After several years on the Los Angeles open mic and coffee house scene performing and selling Utopia, Mangia started to reap the benefits of his hard work. Several of his songs were picked up and used on daytime soap operas and he recently opened his own publishing company Eat An Apple Publishing. Michael is looking forward to build on this momentum with the release of Invisible Wall. "Everyone has their own stories to tell, what I hope to get across is the beauty of expressionism. Sort of like a good read in a good book."
