This fall Vector Recordings will release Joseph Arthur’s Our Shadows Will Remain.

His first recording for the label, the 12-track new album is at once Arthur’s most concise, focused work to date, and arguably the one that most clearly reveals the breadth of his imagination. He will perform material from the new album on a fall tour beginning September 11 in Northampton, MA. Please see reverse for a complete itinerary.

Arthur attributes much of the album’s particularity to the context in which he wrote and recorded it. Late last year, following the release of his highly acclaimed Redemption’s Son, Arthur chose to abandon the familiar surroundings in which he typically created his music—his apartment/home studio on East 22nd Street in Manhattan. He put virtually all of his belongings into a storage unit in New York and headed for New Orleans, taking not much more than his clothes, his guitar, and rough demos of ten or twelve new songs.

Seven or eight weeks later, Arthur had written some of the most ambitious and richly orchestrated songs of his career. He returned to New York and signed with Vector Recordings, the label formed by Jack Rovner and Ken Levitan that is also home to Damien Rice, Chris Robinson, Simple Kid and other distinctive artists.

Since the 1997 release of his debut, Big City Secrets, Arthur has occupied a place among the most acclaimed rock singer-songwriters. That album provoked Alternative Press to call him “one of the last true artists left in the world.” Entertainment Weekly named Arthur’s second album, Come to Where I’m From, the #1 album of 2000. His critical profile was raised further with the release of Redemption’s Son, which made numerous critics’ best of 2002 lists, including a #2 spot on that of USA Today critic Edna Gunderson. London’s Sunday Times deemed the album “a classic.” In a grade-A review, Entertainment Weekly said, “In the current pop singer-songwriter renaissance, Arthur stands out as the most emotionally naked and musically ambitious.”

Arthur’s song “You’re So True” is featured on the acclaimed Shrek 2 soundtrack album, which is in stores now.
