Atlantic recording group Hootie & The Blowfish return this week with their first album of all-new material in over four years. Produced by Don Was (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt), the self-titled collection is already being embraced by critics - including a three-star rave in the New York Post.

"Innocence," the first single from "HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH," has begun to make its mark at a number of radio formats nationwide. Written by all four members of the band, and produced by Pete Masitti, the song has just come in as the #3 most added track at Hot AC and #5 most added at Mainstream AC.

Hootie & The Blowfish - who will kick off a major cross-country tour beginning in May - heralded the album's arrival with a March 3rd performance on NBC- TV's The Tonight Show with Jay Jeno. The band are set for a series of other high-profile TV appearances, including Weekend Today on Saturday, March 8th; The Caroline Rhea Show on Monday March 10th; and The WB Morning Show on Tuesday, March 11th.

Following a two-year break to start families and work on solo projects, Hootie & The Blowfish returned to the studio last year to begin recording their long-awaited fifth album. Working for the first time with renowned producer Was, the primary goal was to capture the energy and excitement of the quartet's acclaimed live shows. With the exception of "Innocence," all the songs on the new album were produced by Was, and engineered and mixed by Ed Cherney.

One of the biggest music stories of the past decade, Hootie & The Blowfish broke through to huge success with their 1994 debut, "CRACKED REAR VIEW." Earning the RIAA's prestigious Diamond Award (for U.S. sales in excess of ten million copies), the album has been certified 16 times platinum, and is currently tied with Boston's self-titled premiere and Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill" as the #1 best-selling debut album of all time.

The Grammy-winning quartet has since continued to hone their songwriting and performing prowess, while racking up global sales of 25 million albums. "CRACKED REAR VIEW" was followed by the multi-platinum selling "FAIRWEATHER JOHNSON" (1996) and "MUSICAL CHAIRS" (1998). A collection of rarities, "SCATTERED, SMOTHERED, AND COVERED," was released in 2000.

Hootie & The Blowfish is: Mark Bryan (lead guitar), Dean Felber (bass), Darius Rucker (lead vocals, guitar), and Jim "Soni" Sonefeld (drums). The band is managed by Doc McGhee and McGhee Entertainment Inc..
