Knight, Oscar-winner, member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and second biggest-selling solo artist in recording history, pop megastar Elton John will ring in 2004 by performing his classic “Rocket Man” on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” primetime special. Fans can also ring in the New Year with a new remix of that song plus other rarities on the EP Elton John Remixed (Island/UMe), released December 30th, 2003.
Most of the EP’s five selections are making their U.S. widely-distributed CD debuts, including “Rocket Man ’03,” which utilizes the original, classic vocal from the 1972 Top 10 hit and had been available only as an import. Also premiering is “Are You Ready For Love (Ashley Beedle’s Love And Protection Mono Edit),” a seven-minute-plus remix of the 1977 Thom Bell-produced recording. The remix was a massive hit in U.K. clubs earlier this year via the Southern Fried DJ label of Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim).
The 1979 Radio Edit of “Are You Ready For Love” is also included. Remixed by Elton and Clive Franks two years after the original song was recorded and issued to coincide with the noteworthy Thom Bell Sessions EP, this version retains the “Philly Sound” associated with The Spinners and The Stylistics while sounding fresh and contemporary. Elton will perform “Are You Ready For Love” on television’s climactic “World Idol” finale episode on January 1, 2004. The song will also be featured on the hit U.S. series “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy” during the new year.
