Death Cab for Cutie release their new single, 'Cath' on July 21 through Atlantic Records. 'Cath' is the second single to be taken from Death Cab for Cutie's stunning sixth album Narrow Stairs. The album entered the UK chart in the Top 25, the first time the band has broken the UK Top 40, and debuted at number 1 in the US. The release of 'Cath' coincides with a set of UK live dates, including London's Brixton Academy on July 17.
Produced by the band's own Chris Walla (who has produced for The Decemberists and Tegan & Sara), Narrow Stairs is shaping up as Death Cab's most-praised work to date. The Fly wrote 'Death Cab prove themselves masters of a bigger picture...magnificent', whilst Uncut declared that 'the LP extends the soundscape to IMAX proportions'. The first single, the epic 8 minute 'I Will Possess Your Heart, was singled out for particular praise by the NME, describing the track as a 'hypnotic mix of ghostly pianos, driving beats and Ben Gibbard's unnervingly pure vocals'.
Death Cab for Cutie performed at the Electric Ballroom on 6 May this year. The show sold out within a day of tickets going on sale and, in a five star live review, The Guardian proclaimed the band as being 'at the peak of their powers'. As well as the UK performances in July this year, Death Cab will be playing headline dates around the world, plus a number of festivals - including Japan's annual Summer Sonic Festival, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee, Spain's Benicassim Festival, and the UK's Latitude Festival.
Formed at Bellingham University, Death Cab has received consistent acclaim from critics and fans alike in their ten-year history. In 1995, the band received a Grammy nomination for the 2005 million selling album, Plans.
