The U.K.’s hottest export--the duo of DAN LE SAC VS. SCROOBIUS PIP--have created enormous buzz in their native country. Combining witty and shockingly spot-on decrees from the mind of vocalist Pip with producer le sac’s mesmeric electro-blessed beats, the pair’s two smash singles--“Thou Shalt Always Kill” and “Beat That My Heart Skipped”--will be made available digitally on March 11 via Cold Sweat Records. This marks the first time these songs will be available commercially as an official release in the U.S.
In conjunction with the American availability of these two singles, dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip will come to the States for their first-ever proper U.S. tour. Dates commence at the Mercury Lounge in New York City March 11 as part of the ‘Rock Over London’ series of showcases, which introduces, supports and connects the most exciting London-based music businesses and artists to the U.S. Other ‘Rock Over London’ showcase events the duo will be performing at include those in Austin during SXSW and Los Angeles on March 17. le sac vs. Pip are also scheduled for shows in Chicago and San Francisco, plus a few additional shows in Austin (NME and Rob Da Bank’s SXSW showcases) and will end their U.S. trek April 25 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. Anyone yet to witness the pair’s striking prop-embellished live set is in for a real treat.
While only ever intended as a low-key limited edition 7,” the duo’s first single “Thou Shalt Always Kill” emerged victorious as the thinking man’s anthem upon its release last year in England. The fuse was lit when the song quickly became the most publicly requested track on XFM’s Xposure show. Rave reviews followed, with The Guardian (London) endorsing it as “2007’s first underground anthem” and NME enthusing “Scroobius Pip, you've written the Track Of The Year. Thou shalt buy this song and listen to it every day until the sun swallows the earth.” Radio rotation rocketed with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe naming it the “Hottest Track in The World Right Now,” and later his “Single Of The Week.” With their low-fi video having clocked up nearly a colossal two million views on YouTube, le sac and Pip suddenly found themselves topping ‘Best Of 2007’ lists across the globe.
Following “Thou Shalt Always Kill” came “Beat That My Heart Skipped,” a power-packed single that couples a rapid-fire Pip rap with a pummeling le sac electro-rock beat, all of which spins dizzily on the axis of the song’s massive, bouncing sing-along chorus. In the U.K. it received widespread and strong support on nationwide radio [Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, John Kennedy, Rob Da Bank, etc] that took off where “Thou Shalt Always Kill,” the daring duo’s debut, left off. The video for “Beat That My Heart Skipped” can be seen on computer and TV screens now.
Not ones to rest on their laurels, le sac and Pip have been working on their debut full-length album due out sometime later this year. In-between recording, the duo have been wreaking havoc at festivals and live shows, the highlights of which have included Glastonbury, Camden Crawl, Bestival and Latitude as well as outings with Mark Ronson, RJD2, Lethal Bizzle and El-P, plus their very own headline tour.
