Big choruses and jumping rhythms aren't always what you expect when you hear someone described as an LA singer-songwriter. But that's what you'll get on Curtis Peoples' self-titled album, out from The Control Group/Galt Line Music on August 19th. It's got thoughtful lyrics AND power guitars. Music Connection calls it "pure pop with a classic-rock vibe." You might call it "coffeeshop arena rock", and Curtis may well be its only practitioner. Listen to its ten songs and you'll be reminded of the inspiring sounds of U2 and Bon Jovi as well as the acoustic pop of John Mayer and Jason Mraz. But Peoples, as viewers learned on MTV's on-air songwriting competition SCORE, has his own unique musical fingerprint. "All my favorite artists can go from acoustic to rock and back again from song to song and album to album," he says. "I want to be like that - it leaves a lot of room for excitement and surprise."

Peoples, a curly-haired San Diego native with a ready smile and a down-to-earth attitude, moved to LA just three years ago, and within months was on a national tour with Tyler Hilton, the singer-songwriter also known for his acting roles on 'One Tree Hill' and in 'Walk the Line'. Dates with Josh Kelley, Hanson, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, Tim Reynolds, Joe Firstman and others soon followed.

Some of Young Hollywood's most musical talents, including Jesse McCartney and Ryan Cabrera, have been spotted at Curtis's Los Angeles shows, and Music Connection praised his "strong and deeply resonant voice" and named him one of their "100 Unsigned Artists To Watch in 2008."

It didn't take long for the buzz to reach producer Marshall Altman (Matt Nathanson, Kate Voegele, Marc Broussard). The resulting album of well-crafted songs ranges from the hard-rocking swagger of "Heart Will Fall" (co-written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder) and Tom Petty-esque "Back Where I Started " to the acoustic, contemplative "Wake Up" and the funky power pop of "Tell Me I'm Wrong," co-written with Tyler Hilton.

Curtis Peoples will be bringing his crowd-pleasing live show to audiences across the country this summer and fall. See dates below.

    biography
A songwriter with an understanding for what it takes to make a great pop record, Curtis Peoples crafts songs that fans of rock to acoustic folk and pop can enjoy. With a mix of big choruses and jumping rhythms, Curtis’ style of “coffee shop arena rock” incorporates the radio-friendly and inspiring sounds of U2 and Bon Jovi as well as the rhythmic jazz-folk of John Mayer and Jason Mraz into his songs resulting in his own unique musical fingerprint.

Although brand new to the Los Angeles music scene at the time, it took merely a matter of months for Curtis Peoples to score his first big break via a national tour with friend and fellow singer-songwriter Tyler Hilton (Warner Brothers Records, One Tree Hill, Walk The Line). The road certainly agreed with this native of San Diego as tour dates with Josh Kelley, Hanson, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, Tim Reynolds (longtime Dave Matthews collaborator), Joe Firstman (Carson Daly Show), and others quickly followed. An appearance on Ryan Cabrera's on-air songwriting competition MTV's SCORE also served as a platform to perform his original material in front of a national audience.

While gaining a dedicated contingent of fans all around the country via these treks and media appearances the music industry has also been taking notice. Peoples' music has received commercial radio airplay at KMTT (Seattle), KPRI (San Diego), and a number of college stations. As Keith "Madison" Miller at KPRI puts it, "Curtis has found his voice...tapped his natural sensibility for writing a tune." Music Connection Magazine raves that Curtis Peoples "performs music that is pure pop with a classic-rock vibe. Some songs could have Top 40 appeal, while others have the potential to be excellent for TV or movie placements" and went on to name Peoples as one of the "100 Unsigned Artists To Watch in 2008!"

It didn't take long for the buzz to reach producer Marshall Altman (Matt Nathanson, Kate Voegele, Marc Broussard). After experiencing a live show and a brief initial meeting, Altman agreed to take the helm of Curtis Peoples' debut album. The resulting album is 10 well-crafted songs, from the hard rocking swagger of Heart Will Fall (co-written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder) and Tom Petty-esque Back Where I Started to the acoustic and contemplative Wake Up and funky power pop of the Tyler Hilton co-written Tell Me I'm Wrong. This stunning collection of music marks the arrival of Curtis Peoples to the next level of his career.

Curtis Peoples' self-titled debut album is slated for release on August 19th, 2008.
